BuzzSumo for Internet Marketing

Volume Nine Case Study

Volume Nine is an SEO company located in Denver, Colorado specializing in Core Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Blog Marketing, Influencer Outreach, Social Media Marketing & Content Marketing. We caught up with Director of Off-Site Promotions, Allison Nuanes, to find out how they use BuzzSumo.

Why do you use BuzzSumo?

We use BuzzSumo for a variety of purposes. One of the key parts of our Blog Marketing service entails researching competitors and delivering strategies to our clients based on the metrics presented in BuzzSumo.

Beyond that, BuzzSumo has proven to be an excellent tool for idea generation. By looking at the various posts and articles on a specific topic, we can then overlay that with what has been shared socially to develop great topic ideas for our clients.

Has BuzzSumo become essential for your day to day work?

Absolutely. BuzzSumo reports have been integrated with several of our key deliverables for blog management and influencer outreach services. BuzzSumo’s suite of tools definitely shaves hours off many tasks by providing competitive metrics quickly and helping us hone in on the most shared content rather than sifting for a needle in a haystack.

What is your favorite BuzzSumo Pro feature?

It’s hard to say - but I think the domain comparison has been extremely useful, both for our own brand and for our clients. Being able to see at a glance how one blog stacks up against the competition is awesome and saves so much time. You always need the human eye on competitive analysis, but getting the metrics through BuzzSumo allows us to spot competitive weaknesses or strengths so quickly - then we can dig in deeper and really spend our time doing deeper analysis in more valuable ways.

Why did you choose BuzzSumo?

We started using BuzzSumo (the free edition) early on in 2014. In the summer of 2014 we tested out the Pro features and fell in love. It has been an awesome addition to our toolset and one that we use almost daily across the organization. I’m not sure where we initially learned about BuzzSumo, but I think it was probably an industry blog post or article.

Why would you advise other organisations to use BuzzSumo?

I would advise other organizations to use BuzzSumo, especially if they are developing content online in any capacity. Any longer, you can’t just throw blog posts up and hope to rank well, gain traffic and convert that traffic. BuzzSumo is an excellent tool for identifying trends, finding content that has worked, and educating yourself and your team about how to do content the right way. From delving into metrics like the domain comparison, or searching for popular articles by topic, companies can begin to develop content strategies that are built to succeed and actually reach an audience, rather than randomly blogging whenever an idea comes up.

Our Blog Marketing team and Influencer Outreach team use the tools in BuzzSumo to improve our strategies and drive success for clients. Honestly, BuzzSumo is a key tool for providing insights that drive great results and ROI for clients.
