The Content Factory is a digital PR agency that specializes in social media and online content marketing - all with a focus on SEO. We caught up with PR Coordinator / Social Media Manager Jason Myers to find out how they have been using BuzzSumo.
Why do you use BuzzSumo?
As a social media manager and PR coordinator for The Content Factory, my job requires staying in front of trending topics, developing meaningful relationships with influential journalists, and tracking the progress of our clients’ content. BuzzSumo has become one of our main go-to tools because it helps us to succeed with each of those objectives.
Why did you choose BuzzSumo?
Since we’re a boutique firm servicing major national clients, it’s imperative that our staff has the most efficient, cutting-edge technology available to deliver consistent results in the PR and Social Media space. We’re constantly testing out new platforms and apps to enable our team to work smarter. BuzzSumo is one of the few systems that’s earned a permanent place in our company because it’s easy to use and helps us do a better job coordinating PR for our clients. We all use it every single day!
What is your favorite BuzzSumo Pro feature?
As social media managers, some of us are in charge of 20 or more posts each day per client across several social media channels. Finding hot, relevant content that our clients’ followers will engage with is not always an easy task. BuzzSumo helps to solve the curation problem on two fronts:
Trending Now - This feature allows us to find the most engaging stories that are already proven winners and customize the feeds that we view by keywords in a way that puts search engines to shame.
Most Shared - This is one of the tools that we use every morning because it gives us a clear vision of what content is performing well within each client’s niche. Once you identify and search the most valuable keywords, you can see a graphic depiction of how individual articles are performing online. More importantly, you get an instant snapshot of which social media channels are working for your content and which ones need help.
Drilling down even further, the “View Sharers” feature on the “Most Shared” content page is one of the coolest innovations of the BuzzSumo platform, and has become our secret weapon in targeted networking. It empowers us to create meaningful Twitter lists of influencers who are more likely to cover our clients’ stories.
Has BuzzSumo become essential for your day to day work?
Yes, BuzzSumo is definitely an important part of our daily work. It saves us hours of research time every week because so many of the processes that we used to do manually are either completely automated or available in a few clicks. For example, the BuzzSumo Alerts deliver emails throughout the day whenever our clients (or their competitors) are mentioned online. This enables us to assess the placement, engage with the journalist, promote the article, and report back to the client in the quickest way possible. We’ve even found BuzzSumo Alerts to be faster and more effective than Google Alerts, as we mentioned in an article on our blog.
Why would you advise other organisations to use BuzzSumo?
If your job depends on being able to quickly and continuously analyze a massive amount of data pertaining to your field, BuzzSumo will make your life easier. Everyone knows that you shouldn’t be overly self promotional on a company’s social media channels. BuzzSumo takes the guesswork out of finding engaging stories to share with your followers by showing you what the internet is already responding to. Yet it goes beyond curation and gives you valuable analytics on the people who are excited about specific content and where they’re sharing it!
Anyone who’s serious about securing PR placement and building meaningful social media followings should try BuzzSumo. If you want to see more specific examples of why we’ve become such brand advocates for this company check out this PRWeek article on BuzzSumo. In this feature our agency’s owner, Kari DePhillips, cites several case studies of how the platform has improved the performance of The Content Factory and how it could do the same for your company.
