While researching my latest piece of content on the Skyscraper Technique, I decided to do a bit of digging into BuzzSumo’s index of 8bn+ articles.
Over the last five years a mammoth 1.7bn articles have been published online.
I knew that published content was bound to have increased over time, but was still surprised to see a huge 64% rise – that’s a grand total of 171m more articles than in 2016.
But I guess that’s what happens when there’s a global pandemic – we’ve suddenly got a lot more to talk about!
Before this, content was increasing in volume by around 20% each year – a figure definitely not to be ignored – especially if post-pandemic content returns to this steady upward trajectory.
What does this mean? Now more than ever, our content needs to work harder. No pressure 😅
